Art Therapy

Using creativity to heal

What is art therapy?

Art therapy is a form of therapy which uses the process of making art (in all its various mediums) to help people communicate and work through complex emotions.

In an art therapy session the client uses art materials to express their feelings with the art therapist helping them to reflect on the process and on the final product.

What can art therapy help with?

Art therapy can be used to help clients with issues such as:

  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Past trauma (and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder)
  • Learning difficulties or disabilities
  • Difficulty expressing their feelings verbally

It is also a particularly effective form of therapy for younger children.
